We are delighted to announce our new High-Level Speaker Programme, The Robert Winston Lectures. We are very honoured to able to host these prestigious speaker events and would like to invite you to join us. There will be a total of six lectures throughout the year. These events will be open to the public; therefore, tickets will be issued on a first come/first served basis. For more information on each speaker and to book tickets, please click on the link below and return the reply slip to the school office. We are currently only asking for responses for the first term’s speakers, the final three lectures will be offered later in the year, however, we would encourage you to make a note of the dates in your diaries.

While we feel that these lectures will be particularly useful for students in Years 10, 11 and Sixth Form, we would like to welcome all who wish to meet and hear from current leading thinkers.

  • Oliver Barker - All England Song and Dance Champion

    Published 01/09/17

Oliver Barker stormed the Hackney Empire in London this summer with his performance of ‘Mr. In-Between,’ a song written by his Father. With a unanimous decision, the judges awarded Oliver the first prize in the Musical Theatre section, beating off stiff competition from all around England.

The All England Dance finals are held every two years and the finalists go through gruelling heats around the country, followed by a regional semi final (this year held in Hinkley, Leicestershire) and finally to the bi-annual event held in London’s Hackney Empire. Two years ago, when Oliver was searching for a musical theatre song to perform, his Dad (a professional writer and arranger) was at a loss, so wrote a tongue in cheek song for him about the fact that there aren’t really any musical theatre songs for teenagers.

The judges were wowed by Oliver’s vocal and dance abilities and his performance was greeted with cheers from the audience. He was also invited to perform in the prestigious ‘Gala’ concert on the Sunday.  It has been quite a year for Oliver as he also won the prestigious Robin Hood Music and Drama Festival and received the Performing Arts prize at school as well as putting in a fantastic performance as Fagin in the Summer Term production of Oliver!

Oliver doesn’t know where his future lays but, from his experience in London, a number of agents and casting agencies have got their eye on him for the future.

    Well done Oliver!
