On Monday 23 January 2017 current Year 6 pupils from Hill House welcomed others from schools far and wide for their entrance day to Year 7. The children worked hard throughout the morning, sitting a variety of exams in the Main Hall under strict exam conditions. Lunch was well received and they refuelled with pasta bolognaise and chocolate sponge and custard. Break time gave the children a chance to mix and catch up with each other, see friendly faces and meet new faces. For those who had previously attended a day visit, it was another chance to feel at home. They were then treated to a carousel of activities in the afternoon consisting of orienteering in groups with the PE staff out and about in the school grounds, costume design using collage techniques in the Senior School Art Room with the Head of Art surrounded by outstanding art work to get their juices flowing, making electromagnets in the Physics Lab and experiencing the flashes and bangs of the chemistry department in one of the Senior School Science Labs. Children were mesmerised when they mixed chemicals and kitchen products to make expanding foam, they used magnets and chemicals to become magical wizards changing the colour of liquids before their own eyes and the piece de resistance was making a jet engine using an old water container. The children thoroughly enjoyed the team building activities and left with not only a personalised gift but also an enormous smile on their face!
