88 pupils in Years 8 and 9, both boys and girls, set off last Sunday for the hockey trip to Holland.
A long bus journey via the ferry from Dover to Calais, saw us arrive at the beautiful dutch town of Valkenburg for a relaxing few rounds of lasertag, before an evening meal and early bed ready for our first taste of hockey on the Tuesday.
Training took place at Maastricht HC in the shadow of the football club, where the players were put through their paces by expert coaches from both the UK and Holland. The afternoon saw a leisurely stroll through town and a stop for a traditional dutch pancake. Tough evening fixtures against Tegelen HC rounded off a busy but enjoyable day.
Day 3 saw more training, an afternoon of competitive bowling then fixtures spread across Belgium and Holland, with fixtures against Hasselt Stix, HC Peel en Mass, HC Horst and HC Nuth - competitive matches and very hospitable welcomes from our host clubs.
The final full day saw trips to PSV Einhoven for an interesting tour of the ground for the boys, and a chance to splash around at Aquana water park for the girls, before returning to Valkenburg for some exciting tobogganing, and the final tournament against the other English schools who were also on tour in Valkenburg.
A ghoulish Halloween Disco was a fun end to a busy but highly enjoyable trip, and a long but safe journey home to school the next day.
Thank you to all of the staff and pupils who made it a really fantastic trip!
