Such has been the success and growth of Music at Hill House in recent years, the new term will see a significant development in the leadership of Music at the school, as the department will now be managed by two members of staff, each looking after separate areas of Music.
Mr Laszkowicz takes over as Head of Academic Music. He will be responsible for the curricular side of Music throughout the school, having already introduced a bespoke curriculum last year in Years 7 and 8. Already known as one of the region’s best piano teachers, he will still teach some individual lessons, but will also now teach all senior classes.
Mrs Bodman assumes the position of Head of Practical Music. A renowned guitarist in her own right alongside the running of the award winning Robin Hood Festival, she will now lead the school’s very strong team of peripatetic music teachers. She already has numerous plans for development, including a new series of concerts and the introduction of a barbershop choir.
Mrs Weston, who already assists in the administration of the Music Department, extends her responsibilities as part of the team.
All are looking forward to their new roles with excitement. Headmaster David Holland said ‘Music has become such a strength of the school and we now look to move forward even further; the range of choirs, orchestras and other musical opportunities for the children is superb. The large numbers passing music exams, all the way to Diploma level, is wonderful. All the music teachers are very committed and able, and now with two of the most respected musicians in the region working together to lead the department, we expect it to go from strength to strength in coming years.
