Hill House School have plenty to celebrate after an incredible performance at the IAPS Swimming Championships. Junior Swim Squad members Connie Crowther and Greta Highfield have returned from London with a silver and bronze medal respectively.
Both girls swam at the London Aquatics Centre, which was famously built for the London 2012 Olympics. In each category, only the 20 fastest swimmers from heats across the country were selected.
Both girls qualified comfortably for the final but it was clear that, due to the high calibre of swimmers, it was going to be tough. Connie responded by going under 20 seconds for the first time in her heat and then went even quicker in the final to secure the silver medal for the 25m breaststroke, with a time of 19.67 seconds.
Greta was in a fiercely strong butterfly competition. Fifth fastest going into the final, she swam the race of her life to go under 15 seconds and win the bronze with a time of 14.93 seconds. She was only 0.02 seconds off the silver medal!
Both girls are part of the Doncaster DARTES swimming programme as well as the swim squad at Hill House School.
Mr Lawrie, Swim Squad Coordinator, said, 'These girls have trained so hard for this event and we are all thrilled to see them on the podium at this prestigious competition. Connie has only been swimming competitively for 18 months and Greta’s hard work means that she continues to go from strength to strength'.
