The Girls’ U14 Hockey team, already South Yorkshire county champions, progressed to the North of England Finals this week after a hard-fought tournament against other county champions in Manchester.
After a poor display against Cheshire’s Queen’s School, losing 4-0, the girls rallied with an impressive 2-0 victory over Arnold School from Blackpool. They followed this with a masterful 4-0 win over King William’s School from the Isle of Man, including excellent strikes from Daisy Bennett, Isobel Flanagan and Evie Sprenger.
Coming 2nd in their pool, the girls then pitted themselves against Manchester High School in a tight play off. After taking an early 1-0 lead through a wonderful solo goal by Captain Flanagan, the team then withstood heavy second half pressure, a barrage of penalty corners and a partisan crowd, with goal keeper Grace Thomas making a string of outstanding saves to take the team through to the North Finals, at which the girls will compete as one of the eight top teams in the North of England.
