School swimming and running club members Olivia Martin and Greta Highfield competed in the first Yorkshire Biathle Club race of the season at the Ennerdale Leisure Centre in Hull during the Easter holidays. A biathle is a continuous run-swim-run race.
Year 6 pupil Olivia, who qualified to represent Great Britain last year at the World Championships, stormed home in first place. Year 4 pupil Greta, in her first competition, was also victorious. They are now looking forward to their next race in Cheltenham at the end of the month, which is where the Great Britain team will select a squad for the European Championships.
“We have an excellent relationship with the Yorkshire Biathle Club and several school swimming and running club members have competed in their races. Our thanks go to the club who always go out of their way to welcome our pupils,” said Mr Lawrie, Junior School teacher.
