Deciphering the wonders of music at Chethams School of Music

On Thursday February 9th upper sixth and lower sixth music students visited Chethams School of Music in Manchester to enjoy a study afternoon of Baroque period music and Instrumental techniques of the time. They were entertained by students at the school who played Telemann and Purcell and attended seminars given by the academic music staff at Chets. In the evening, String Quartets from the Royal Academy of Music, The Royal Northern College of Music and Birmingham Conservatoire put on a concert of Shostakovich and Beethoven as part of the Shostakovich 1917-2017 quartet festival, organised by the Director of Chamber Music, Graham Oppenheimer.  A wonderful day of music analysis and listening.

Shostakovich – a name to remember!
